Overview

PUB is a statutory board under the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE). It is the national water agency, which manages Singapore’s water supply, water catchment, and used water in an integrated way. From April 2020, PUB also took on the responsibility of protecting Singapore’s coastline from sea-level rise as the national coastal protection agency.

PUB has ensured a diversified and sustainable supply of water for Singapore with the Four National Taps (local catchment water, imported water, NEWater, desalinated water). PUB leads and coordinates whole-of-government efforts to protect Singapore from the threat of rising seas and the holistic management of inland and coastal flood risks.

PUB calls on everyone to play a part in conserving water, in keeping our waterways clean, and in caring for Singapore’s precious water resources. If we all do our little bit, there will be enough water for all our needs – for commerce and industry, for living, for life.

The PUB corporate logo has been specially designed as one unit, with the relationship of its elements locked in. It was refreshed in 2016 after the regulation of electricity and gas industries, formerly undertaken by the PUB, was transferred to a new statutory board, the Energy Market Authority (EMA).

History of PUB Logos 2016

Elements of the refreshed PUB logo:

  • the symbol – the three swirls forming an elliptical shape represents the water cycle. The three swirls represent the three major functions of PUB i.e., water services, sewerage and drainage. The three different shades of blue in the swirl represent three different types of water i.e., seawater, reclaimed water (NEWater) and catchment water.
  • the namestyle – PUB – are letters based on the acronym of Public Utilities Board. This is specially designed as one unit to symbolise the fluid and efficient water resource management of which the organisation is well known for.
  • the description – Singapore’s National Water Agency – reflect PUB’s role as the national water utility managing all of Singapore’s water resources in an integrated manner.
Mission

Supply Good Water. Reclaim Used Water. Tame Storm Water. Resist Rising Seas.

Vision

Water for Every One. Everyone for Water

Singapore’s National Water Agency

PUB is responsible for the collection, production, distribution and reclamation of water in Singapore.

Collection

Rainwater is collected through rivers, streams, canals and drains, and stored in 17 reservoirs. With the pipelines linking the various reservoirs, the excess water can be pumped from one reservoir to another, thus optimising storage capacity.

Production

Raw water is piped to the waterworks for treatment.

Distribution

After treatment, the water is stored in covered reservoirs before distribution to customers.

Reclamation

Water that has been used by customers is collected through an extensive sewerage system and treated at water reclamation plants. Treated used water is further purified using advanced membrane technology to produce high-grade reclaimed water, known as NEWater.

PUB built the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS) for long-term sustainability. An integral part of the water loop, the DTSS is a super highway that channels used water to a centralised water reclamation plant for treatment. The treated used water will then be discharged into the sea or further purified into NEWater.
