Singapore Standards on Water Efficiency Management Systems

Water Efficiency Management Systems

PUB, together with SPRING Singapore and industry stakeholders, have developed a national standard Singapore Standard SS 577:2012 on water efficiency management systems. In 2019, the International Organization for Standardization led by Singapore, developed and published ISO46001 based on SS577. The Standard includes a set of framework and guidelines as well as suggested tools and best practices for water users to adopt and improve on their water usage and efficiency.

It specifies requirements applicable to water usage, including monitoring, measurement, documentation and reporting, design and procurement practices for equipment, systems, processes and personnel that contribute to water efficiency. The standard facilitates organisations in preparing their Water Efficiency Management Plan (WEMP).

Certification

PUB has also worked with the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) to develop a programme to accredit certification bodies to certify water users meeting the ISO46001. Organisations are encouraged to adopt ISO46001 and apply for certification.
