Overview

Through the Four National Taps, we have a robust and sustainable water supply for Singapore. However, installing the infrastructure to supply water is only one half of the equation. As the population and economy continue to grow, Singapore needs to ensure that the demand for water does not rise at an unsustainable rate.

Achieving a sustainable level of water consumption and managing the impact of water on the environment takes the commitment and participation of the community.

Water Consumption

Water demand in Singapore is currently about 430 million gallons a day. This figure could likely double by 2060 with the non-domestic sector accounting for about 70% of the future water demand. As PUB continues to build on water infrastructure and expand capacities, everyone is encouraged to play their part and make water conservation a way of life.

What can you do?

Every drop counts, every contribution matters, no matter how big or small. Let’s work together to lower our water consumption from the current 141 litres in 2018 to 130 litres per person per day by 2030.

Integrated Water System 


PUB has launched a project in the older HDB flats to help households who are currently placed on community assistance schemes replace their existing 9 litres water closets with more water efficient ones. This replacement will be done for free, and is aimed at helping families to save water. 

PUB will also replace existing non-water efficient basin taps/mixers and kitchen taps/mixers at the same time.

PUB will be installing smart shower devices for some 10,000 new homes under a demonstration project over the next few years to further study and validate the conservation effect of such devices. These devices provide real-time information on water consumption during showers. An earlier small scale study found that a person could save up to 5 L a day or about 3% of their monthly water bill, from the use of such devices.
