Millions of tons of carbon waste by-product are produced from oil refinery plants annually. Currently, the carbon waste is burnt and the remaining ash is sent to landfills, a practice which raises serious environmental concerns such as greenhouse gas emissions, potential toxicity to the environment and shortage of landfill space.
CBE Eco-Solutions, a spin-off company of NUS Graduate Research Innovation Programme (GRIP), is revolutionizing the oil & gas industry by converting the carbon waste to high-value products, i.e., vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) and activated carbon. The purity of V2O5 could reach 99% and above, and it is commonly used in the manufacturing of alloy and vanadium flow batteries. Our activated carbon product is highly porous and surface functionalized. It can be used in wastewater treatment, air purification or battery electrodes. With our catalyst and energy efficient process, the product is not only cost-effective to produce but also has high adsorption capacity towards both organic and inorganic pollutants, making it optimized for various follow-on uses.
Applications include cooling tower water treatment, laundry water treatment, seawater reverse osmosis pre-treatment and achieving zero liquid discharge.
